We offer an exciting opportunity for artists and creative professionals through our Open Call for Artists in Residence in Molobyen. This program is part of our commitment to integrate art and creativity into urban development and create an inclusive cultural district.

About AIR Molobyen

Artist in Residence Molobyen (AIR Molobyen) is an interdisciplinary residency program, focusing on the role of art and creativity in urban transformation. We invite artists, architects, designers, chefs, and other creative professionals from both local and international backgrounds to develop projects that engage and involve the residents of Bodø. The program aims to promote public dialogue about art, identity, and sustainable urban development. 

What We Offer

  • Artist Apartment: An apartment in the beautiful Bispegården (the old Bishop’s house), featuring a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom (approximately 45 m²). A big garden and an inspiring view of Breivika beach.

  • Possibilities to offer a workshop/or suitable space for working on your project (depending on your need)

  • It’s possible to apply as a single artist or a team. (Please note that there is only one bedroom, plus a sleeping couch in the living room)

  • Project Support: Participants will get the opportunity to develop projects that can be temporary or permanent, showcased physically in the area and online. 

  • Collaboration: We encourage collaboration with local actors and participation in existing projects in Molobyen.

  • Stipend to cover travel costs and/or production cost.

Selection Criteria

We are looking for projects that:

  • Have high artistic or creative quality and relevance to urban transformation 

  • Temporary/Public Engagement: Projects that involve and engage local groups and can be installed temporarily or permanently.

  • Involve the public and/or local groups.

  • Contribute to strengthening public dialogue about art, culture and urban development.

  • Each project should end with some kind of visible/concrete output - Artist talk, Exhibition, Physical installation, Performance or Event i.e.

  • We also offer some specific project themes, for those artists who would like to be part of ongoing projects. See Calls below!

Application Process

Creative professionals can apply for residencies lasting from short term up to 3 months. We encourage interdisciplinary and experimental projects. Applications must include a project description, (short) documentation of professional background, and how the project will relate to, and engage the local community.

Application Deadline

The next application deadline is October 30, 2024. We look forward to receiving your creative proposals and contributing to a more inclusive and vibrant urban development through art and creativity. The application can be filled out in English or Scandinavian languages.

Theme-and project based Calls

We offer specific project calls, for those artists who would like to be part of ongoing projects. 

  • Open call for projects relating to the urban design/landscape of the public seafront in Molobyen Bodø. 
    Create your take on how to develop a vibrant, exciting, and interesting seafront promenade in the heart of Molobyen, Bodø. How can we develop a strolling area with social meeting places that offer the public nice contact with the waterfront? Project proposals can include art installations, landscape design, architecture, soundscapes, light projects, history, and identity.

  • From AIRPORT to Local community - Open Call for art projects relating to the new transforming the old airport into a vivid community.
    How can art make a difference in the huge city transformation project in Bodø, where the airport is moving and a new part of the town will be built? Bodø Kommune is looking for artists who can create relevant projects involving the locals in the process. Proposals will be open for 2-6 weeks, and the Municipality will be the collaboration partner for this call.
